Biotechnology on Food and Nutrition Nowadays

 

Biotechnology is a technical process in which biological processes, organisms, cells, or cellular components are exploited to develop new technologies. Innovative and experimental tools and products are developed by biotechnologists that help us in research, agriculture, industry, and the clinic. Although still not widely accepted in some countries, biotechnology has proven its power to industrialized countries to attain maximum growth in the agriculture sector. The food we are having now would not have been possible were it not for this community. The World Bank considers the farming sector as an important factor for growth in the economy. Generally, a large sector of the population depends upon the agriculture sector directly or indirectly. Institution and many initiatives have been implemented to spur the growth of the agriculture sector and help the people who depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Biotechnology is playing a pivotal role in the development of the agriculture sector. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report shows that the application of biotechnology may reach in every aspect of the value chain. As per the FAO report, they have observed that the performance is improving in livestock and crops yielding with the help of biotechnology. Especially animal-related experiments across the globe are going well and they are showing positive growth and production, reproduction, and breeding.

Role of Biotechnology in Improving Soil Condition:-

1. Biotechnology is taking experimenting and innovating steps for improving the soil condition of the fields so that crops are expected to yield better than compared to sowed using traditional methods.

2. The consumers who are using Biotechnology developed foods/crops are enjoying their meals.

3. Biotechnology allows farmers to avoid heavy usage of pesticides and herbicides that results in a reduction in a farming cost as well as nutrition of soil is also maintained properly.

Improving soil condition:-

Biotechnology is also using fresh and inventive to till the soil. Through this advancement, crops are expected to give better yields, dramatically more than when sowed using traditional seeds. Also, with the help of biotechnology consumers enjoy their meals with lower levels of fertilizers. It makes it feasible for farmers to avoid the heavy usage of pesticides and herbicides which account for a large share in the farming cost and which some developing countries cannot afford.

Biotechnology works on many other fields:-

1. Bio Informatics:- 

This field works on rapid organization and analysis of biological data possible via methods that address biological problems using computational techniques.

2. Blue Biotechnology: –

This field generally deals with marine and aquatic applications that can be used to improve toxic spills, the yield of fisheries, etc.

3. Green Biotechnology:-

This field deals with agricultural use of technology moving towards more production of crops in quantity as well as quality.

4. Red Biotechnology:- 

This field deals in preparing medicines including designing of organisms to produce antibiotics and engineering of genetic cures.

5. White Biotechnology:-

Demonstrate by preparing and designing an organism or cells to produce useful chemicals, enzymes as an industrial catalyst.

6. Bio Economics:-

Investment-related to biotechnologies to get favorable income output comes under this field.
